It took me a while, but...

It took me a while, but...

...I'm now an official California citizen. I just got my license in the mail today, and I'm one of the few human beings on Earth who has a good driver's license picture. I guess it makes up for the last one.

Watching:
  • "The Donner Party: American Experience"
  • The Gospel According to Philip K. Dick (It'sa not so good. Actually it's a piece of crap with nothing really enlightening to say about the man's life.)
  • The Corporation: The Interviews (bonus disc)

    Listening to:
  • Red Light District, Ludacris
  • Chicken N Beer, Ludacris
  • Get Behind Me Satan, The White Stripes
  • Hot Fuss, The Killers

  • Luda

    Luda

I get to see Ludacris perform for free tonight. No big whoop. (Jealous, Kate?)

God help me. I respect The Gap.

God help me. I respect The Gap.

I never thought I'd say this, but I have so much respect for The Gap right now. I'm watching The Corporation, and the following text is on the screen:

"Under pressure from the National Labor Committee, Gap Inc. allowed independent monitoring of its El Salvador factories, becoming the first transnational corporation to do so anywhere."

That's pretty hardcore and completely respectable. I guess I'll have to stop giving Jessie a hard time about occassionally shopping there.

Also, Ray Anderson is my new hero. If you watch The Corporation you'll see why.

    The ups with the downs

    The ups with the downs

I got to see some pretty cool people at the Magic Johnson Foundation (MJF) Scholar Awards last night. Here's a brief list (this list is the people we interviewed while I was in the makeshift room):

  • Some nerdy, white Foundation lawyers
  • Jesse Jackson
  • Quincy Jones
  • Mayor Villaraigosa (He didn't shake my hand, but I didn't vote for him. Of course I was still registered in Illinois until very recently.)
  • Susan Taylor (Editorial Director of Essence magazine and a damn fine lady)
  • Will Smith

I also saw Russell Simons jetting around everywhere and caught a glimpse of Ludacris walking through the press room. I had a brief moment of getting Luda in for an interview and saying, "Hey, Luda. Do you spell your name with an "H" or...?"

Here's a list of celebrities that I didn't see, but everyone else on my crew did:

  • Eddie Murphy
  • Jay-Z
  • Muhammad Ali
  • Sean "Puffy" "P-Diddy" "Puff Daddy" "Etc." Combs
  • Beyonce (and the rest of Destiny's Child)

I get Jesse Jackson and they got Jay-Z (HOV!) and Ali? What's that about? Of course, any night one can say he only got to see Will Smith, Quincy Jones, etc. is a good night.

Then again I also have ants and a cold. I think I see a pattern developing.

    The Magic House

    The Magic House

I was at Magic freakin' Johnson's house today. I ate his hors d'oeuvres. They were delicious. All this and I got paid to be there. Easiest gig I've had in a long time.

    Busy, busy

    Busy, busy

John Cho of Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle fame was at my birthday bash last night. He sang a rousing rendition of "Beast of Burden" by the Rolling Stones.

I also worked my first day of the Magic Johnson Foundation shoot. He's one cool hombre doing some good work. I even got to shake The Man's hand. It was keen.

    Watching:
  • Gunner Palace
  • What the #$*! Do We (K)now!? (Lots of experts in their respective fields making broad and unsubstantiated statements [and that's being quite generous] about fields in which they are not experts to create a notion of reality that has more holes than War of the Worlds [or perhaps more holes than quantam foam would be the poorer but more appropriate joke]. One of my pet peeves is when people make broad and brash statements with no proof to back up said statements. This film is one big pet peeve.)

    Listening to:
  • Ratatat, Ratatat
  • Since I Left You, The Avalanches
  • Illinois, Sufjan Stevens
  • Ok Cowboy, Vitalic
