So I've got some time on my handsI'm not sure how many of you have been following
Jeffery Rowland's battle regarding his coined term, webcest, but it's absolutely fascinating. Having coined the term on August 2, Rowland's word has already made it into the database of
Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia...and is already facing deletion. Check out the links beneath the August 8 strip on Rowland's webcomic site,
"Overcompensating" for the full, enthralling story.
Linking off from the
webcest Wikipedia page, I found myself at another interesting--and most definitely time-consuming--entry:
Internet phenomenon. In addition to defining the term, the entry cites at least fifty phenomena, arranges them in eight categories (video, animation-based, anime, etc.) and provides brief descriptions and links. It's a strange, digital world out there, and Wikipedia furnishes explorers with
pack mule and sherpa.
