Lastdayhooray

Lastdayhooray

Yep. One last day of the long six day week.

By the way, yesterday J.R. (Larry Hagman) of "Dallas" fame visited his former co-star, Patrick Duffy, on set. Someone shot him while no one was watching. We went through a series of suspects, but it narrowed down quickly when we realized Mary Crosby was also visiting that day.

Just kidding about that. Hagman escaped the day relatively unscathed. In fact, no one was harmed during that day's (filmic) shooting, but the cows at the ranch kept giving us the stink-eye and creeping us out.

To contrast: Today I got whacked in the nose...by myself...and made it bleed. I'd rather not discuss the details (because it's embarrassing), but it involved keys locked in a car, a wooden wedge stuck in a door and a too quick, too strong tug.

[UPDATE: I forgot to mention that J.R. mentioned his intent to go to The Burning Man Festival, which--and I think you'll agree with me--is weird.]

Watching:
  • The Weather Underground
  • Night of the Living Dead (remake)
  • Midnight Cowboy
  • Cheech & Chong: Up in Smoke (Stacy Keach is in it. That's how I'm rationalizing this one.)

    Listening to:
  • "All These Things That I've Done", The Killers

    Reading:
  • The Elegant Universe, Brian Greene (still bubblegum science, but more challeging than The Barmaid's Brain)
  • The New Avengers, Brian Michael Bendis & David Finch, Danny Miki & Frank D'Armata
  • House of M, Brian Michael Bendis, et al
  • Transmetropolitan, Warren Ellis & Darick Robertson
  • Seaguy, Grant Morrison & Cameron Stewart

Heroes on that platinum shell, baby! Bling-bling!

Heroes on that platinum shell, baby! Bling-bling!

I just discovered two awesome things. The highest grossing independent film of all time is...Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! The other discovery is that Sam Rockwell was in the movie. He's the guy who leads the two new kids into the Foot lair when they first establish it ("Anything you wanna do. Do it.").

I'm watching Ninja Turtles right now for the billionth time, and I'll be damned if it doesn't still stand up.

Also today was hot. 105° F at the hottest. I had to walk uphill (both ways/in the snow) carrying heavy shit and getting annoyed with complain-y people. I'm pretty much over this week.

    Watching:
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (That's right.)

Of course this is a six day work week. Why wouldn't it be?

Of course this is a six day work week. Why wouldn't it be?

I drove two hundred miles today. In between I got to work in the blazing sun and whirling dust at the top of a mountain for ten hours. Good thing I'm underpaid.

    Watching:
  • Night of the Living Dead (in preparation for my Land of the Dead date with Angela this Sunday)

    Reading:
  • The Barmaid's Brain
  • The Comics Journal #172 (for the Joe Kubert interview and the Paul Rivoche sketchbook)
  • Grant Morrison's New X-Men run (Just finished it, in fact. It lost a lot of steam and sense in the last two story arcs.)
  • Global Frequncy, created by Warren Ellis (in honor of the leaked GF pilot)

    I'm practically a cowboy already

    I'm practically a cowboy already

I saw my first rattlesnake (an allegedly more-dangerous-than-the-adult baby) the other day. I also got to ride a horse around from about ten minutes. The handler insisted on demonstrating to Bashir (the key PA) and Veronique (the new crafty) what horses don't like whilst I was still on his horse's back. Horses--I'll have you know--do not like plastic bags in their faces.

Other than that it's the same old, same old. I've got two more weeks of the Western, then I'm technically jobless again. Technically. Everything should pick back up all around in July, though. Huzzah.

Also, everyone should see Batman Begins. It's the only Batman movie as far as I'm concerned. Awesome. It's like everything about Bruce Wayne becoming Batman suddenly clicked.

    Watching:
  • Batman Begins
  • F for Fake
  • Mean Girls

    Reading
  • The Barmaid's Brain
