It brings a tear to a young professional's eye

It brings a tear to a young professional's eye

Today after I got home from work (which I have until next Wednesday [hooray!]) I found several awesome things in my mailbox.

  • 1) All three of my Netflix movies (Nightwatch, Midnight Cowboy & Head: The Monkees for those keeping score at home).

  • 2) My upgraded health insurance plan (finally). Lower co-pays and better coverage? Why, I'll take it!

  • 3) Not one, but two pay checks. The best part is that they're both pretty substantial ($137.34 for each of two days' work, after taxes) and they came in the same envelope. It was like I won some sort of lotto scratch off and doubled my pay.

Guess I'll go make a deposit, have some food and pop in a movie. And get surgery. With a low co-pay. I don't care what they remove, 'cause it's cheap!

[Incidentally, if you're looking for a great read, look no further than Daniel Clowes' (of Ghost World fame) Eightball comics. They're smart, oneiric and affecting. The two specific issues I refer to at the moment are issues one and 23.]

    Picture day!

    Picture day!

In lieu of a real post today--because I's tired--I'm finally going to post some pictures of my lady friend, Jessie.

This one was taken last weekend before we went and played Frisbee on the beach. Hooray! Beach!

Here she is right before we headed to the comics shop. That's right. She went comics shopping with me. Totally hot. My camera focusing is--as always--impeccable.

    Here's an abstract sexy one.

I believe this was the last one I took before we left for the beach. A smart man knows when not to press his luck. It's a survival instinct.

So that's the little lady for those of you who were wondering. I am now going to read comics until I pass out. I'm sure I'll let loose with a real post anytime now. Anytime...

    Watching:
  • Pulp Fiction (still good)
  • Invasion of the Body Snatchers ('78 version, which is even better than the original. It's so subtle. And that last image? Awesome.)
  • Pretty in Pink
  • Glengarry Glen Ross
  • Nattevagten
  • Spanglish (I think James Brooks is one of the best writers working in contemporary cinema, and Spanglish is no exception. The fact that he's also a great director makes me more than a bit jealous.)
  • Elektra (Man, this movie is awful. Like I need to tell you guys that.)

    Listening to:
  • Paul's Boutique & Ill Communication, Beastie Boys
  • Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, Outkast (Both discs are still great on the billionth listen.)

    Reading:
  • Understanding Comics & Reinventing Comics, Scott McCloud
  • Kabuki: Circle of Blood, David Mack
  • Eightball #23: The Death Ray, Daniel Clowes
  • Quimby Mouse, Chris Ware
  • Comics Journal #267
