Should be an interesting next few years...or dull and frustrating. Well, the
Democrats have taken the House and they have a chance of taking the Senate as well. That's pretty exciting, although we got our
governor in California re-elected. It's not really as bad as it sounds. He's very moderate for a
Republican because...well, it's California.
What's
really upsetting is that--as of last night with 22% of the precincts reporting--
Proposition 87 was failing to pass. The gist of Prop 87 is that oil companies will be taxed an extra 1.5% to 6% per barrel of oil, the proposition also "
Prohibits (oil) producers from passing tax to consumers." (Emphasis mine). The only commercial I saw that went against Prop 87 made outrageous claims about what would happen to the economy and oil prices if the proposition passed. The fine print showed that the commercial was funded by
Chevron,
and that's why you always read the fine print. Who wants big, bad corporations to pay for your more efficient engines and your cleaner air? Apparently not the idiots in this state. That's incredibly disappointing.
But the Dems have taken the House and have a pretty good chance to take the Senate. And how could I forget?
Rumsfeld is stepping down. So
that's some icing that goes with a power shift in
Congress.
