One year closer to dying and/or of being awesome

One year closer to dying and/or of being awesome

So here's the birthday breakdown:

I just got home from work, which started at 7PM July 8th and ran until 2:30AM July 9th (my birthday). I'll probably get to sleep at around 4AM my time. Tomorrow?

  • 11:30AM - Work meeting. Jessie and I are working an anniversary thing for a Magic Johnson foundation July 10 - 18, and we've got a paid meeting tomorrow. $175 per day including the two hour meeting tomorrow. Boo-yah.

  • (Pie making. I'm getting a pumpkin pie for my birthday instead of a cake...because pie is delicious.)

  • 4:30PM - Dance rehearsal for a hair show I'm gong to be in late July. I know, but other straight guys are doing it, too. It's also a free trip to Vegas.

  • 7:30PM - Free Fantastic Four screening and Q & A with the cast (and possibly director).

  • 10:30PM - Karaoke and drinking.

I've also got a California driver's license coming with a decent picture, I'll have you know. Full head of hair, a tan and everything. Plus I only missed one on my written driver test without studying so I'm a goddamn genius.

PS - Sufjan Steven's album, Illinois, contains reference to my hometown(s) both explicitly (my second hometown, Godfrey, is referenced in "A Conjunction of Drones Simulating the Way In Which Sufjan Stevens Has an Existential Crisis In the Great Godfrey Maze" [and the maze is really only great in title]) and obliquely ("The Tallest Man, the Broadest Shoulders, Pt. I: The Great Frontier / Pt. II: Come to Me Only With Playthings Now" references my original hometown of Alton, which was home to Robert Wadlow, the world's tallest man.) They are clearly the two greatest songs ever written...ever.

Lit up like the Fourth of July

Lit up like the Fourth of July

Man, you guys should have seen the sky in Los Angeles tonight (those of you that don't live in the area, anyway). I went up with Jessie and Rose on top of their apartment building's roof to check out the fireworks, and it was literally a 360° panorama of shit blowing up. Shock and awe indeed. Seriously unbelievable. Not a piece of the sky that wasn't lit up by explosions. I'd never experienced anything like that before (last year's display was lackluster where I was watching in Brentwood). It was nice and patriotic.

July 4th wouldn't be complete without a family barbeque, so Jessie and I went over to my co-worker Athena's house to eat some burgers and drink some beers with her family, friends and other co-workers. I ended up drinking quite a bit, winning a pull-up contest and booty-dancing with Athena's mom. Outstanding. I can't wait for the Desolation Canyon wrap party on Thursday for more of the same.
