Ah, the Sunset Strip
Ah, the Sunset Strip
So I went out to THE STRIP tonight for some drinking. It was pretty much like Green Street on a somewhat busy night. It was the same kinds of people dressed in the same kinds of clothes standing in line. Me and a friend went to a smaller club called The Cat Club where there was a small stage of pretty good live music and relatively inexpensive drinks ($4 for a Bud light). We stayed there most of the night hanging out and listening to music before leaving to try someplace else. Apparently you have to get to clubs pretty early for them to let you in. We tried to get into a place called The Sky Bar, but they had already closed their doors at 1AM. The House of Blues in the same area gave us the same story. They, however, directed us to a bar a block down called The Cattle Ranch. You can imagine the decor. It was THE STRIP doing "The Midwest" complete with a shitty bar space--one bar and a lot of standing room only and a mechanical bull. Apparently there's some strange allure for tight-topped womena and a bucking electrical bovine. Who knew? One girl thought she was quite attractive being tossed around as she made the "It's On" face while running her fingers through her hair. Then she got tossed off. Perhaps I'm just biased because 1)they don't have Midwesterners pegged quite right and 2)a round of two beers was $16. In any case, it was a pretty fun, if somewhat expensive, night. Remember: everywhere is the same as anywhere else. There are always the same kind of people, and they all act the same when they become intoxicated. Good times. Oddly enough, I mean it. There's something very reassuring where you realize that this strange place is really no different than the last place you were in; there's just more people.
